The Crazy thing about kids

So I went to a second hand store to buy Bear some skates for school. We have a rink(Community Centre) right next to the school and the school is planning on actually using it. My son was all excited because he wants to do the hockey thing. I am not sure he understands what that entails. It is a cool sport that he hasn't done yet and so he is eager to try it. The problem is my son has huge-no no no-HUGE! feet. At age six he wears size 1 shoes of children's sizes. Let the fun begin.

First off I thought I had found a pair that might fit him but could only find one skate. The mate was missing and so I had to ask for help. This was a good thing as it turned out. So I ended up roping this poor woman into going through 6 different sizes before we found one that would fit Bear. First off the one that I had originally chosen was so off the mark it wasn't even funny. It was a size four. Hmm. See the problem yet. Okay, so she tells me that usually the properly fitted skate is a size down from his shoe size. I get the Bear's boot and look at the size. Size 13 toddlers. Okay so we get a size 12. Hah! Hah! Again I say Hah! Size 13? Haha! Size 1 children's? Hehehe.... Size 2??? "It squishes!" Size 4? Way too big, he wobbles in it as he tries to walk. Size 3? please? Nope still too big. Did you know that if you get the child to push his foot as far forward as possible and you can fit two fingers in behind his heel its too big for him. I didn't either. So what is the right fit? If only one finger fits behind the heel.

Meanwhile Bear is still complaining "It squishes!" "Where? Point to where it hurts?" "Right there!" His toes. Oh my I had forgotten that he had inherited his fathers feet. Okay size 2 1/2 EE? Even with the Double E (which means extra wide for the uninformed skinny footed people) "It squishes!" And alas still to big! Okay what are we going to do? Hmm, "Bear you do realize that a skate is meant to fit snugly and not be loose right?" "It squishes!" This is to the size 2 skate which we had taken the liner out and his foot fit the liner. Okay new tactic "Bear, if we don't get these skates which fit you really well you won't be able to go skating with your class on Thursday." The saleslady then says "It is up to Mom but do you want to take them?" To which my sons promptly replied "We'll take them!". Yeah! to smart parenting tricks and finally figuring out why your child is so against the skates. What is more important a snug skate or not going skating?

Yeah.

Anyways on another note, my sister in law called and asked if Hubby or I would want a massage since her practice appointment just cancelled. (She is training to be a sports massage and reflexology therapist. I hope I have that right) I was extremely nice and let my husband go since I felt he deserved it. He is in charge of the company right now and the boss had called from Mexico (he's on vacation) to bitch at my Hubby because he-the boss-was frustrated and was feeling bitchy. Needless to say this happened when Hubby was helping Bear with his homework so instead of homework a few unsavory words were said that should not be uttered in the presence of children. Alas my Hubby's boss makes me want to say those same words and I don't even have to talk to him some days. (To make matters worse the boss is also my Hubby's father or my father-in-law! Sigh) Okay homework did get done and Hubby was sent to go get a massage and I am following the instructions left on my bullentin board by a friend who had been over last night. So I have done two out of the three things she had written and none of the tasks I had originally listed. Hmm maybe I need to YELL at my best friend more often!!!!!! Okay now I have done all three.

1. Play WoW
2. Update Weblog
3 Yell at best friend!

Yeah I am glad when things go right for a change. It feels good to complete a list.
